Mix, Shake, and Abracadabra: You're Only Moments Away from the Best Salad Dressing & Dip Mix Around!

How often have you pulled out a recipe only to find that you don’t have the seasoning or spice mix it calls for in the recipe?

We’ve all been there. That’s one of the reasons why we’re always stocking our pantry with simple multi-use ingredients like powdered milk, herbs, and spices for making seasoning blends and mixes ourselves. Other reasons are that we can make as much or as little as we want, and we can make favorite copycat versions for many of the commercially produced products we’ve come to love.

So don’t be afraid to get creative when using this buttermilk dressing and dip base mix recipe.

How to Make this Homestyle Ranch Dressing & Dip Mix Hidden Valley Copycat Recipe

You will be happy to know that no fancy equipment is required to make this recipe. All you need is a bowl and a whisk to make it. That said, if you are lucky enough to have a food processor in your kitchen arsenal, you can use it to pulse the ingredients into as much of a fine grind as you may want!

To make the base dressing mix, combine the buttermilk powder, parsley, dill weed, garlic and onion powders, minced onion, and kosher salt in a medium-size bowl, then whisk until thoroughly combined.

Make It Extra Good With Veggies:

You may want to add 1-2 tablespoons of Dehydrated Mixed Vegetables to make a Vegetable Buttermilk Ranch Dressing & Dip Mix. We found that pulsing everything in a food processor worked well for fine-grinding the vegetables to make this option. When making it this way, pulse all the ingredients in a food processor until you get the consistency you desire.

Base Recipe Yield

One ounce of Homestyle Buttermilk Ranch Dressing & Dip Mix is equivalent to one package of store-bought dry ranch dressing seasoning packet.

How to Store:

Store the mixture in a tightly sealed glass container in the refrigerator for up to three months when you’ve got your ingredients combined.

How to Make Ranch Salad Dressing Using the Mix

Once the mix is combined, making homestyle ranch salad dressing is a breeze. To make Buttermilk Ranch Salad Dressing, mix 1-2 tablespoons of Homestyle Buttermilk Ranch Dressing & Dip Mix with 1/3 cup mayonnaise and 1/3 cup milk to make enough dressing for about four to six salads. Whisk everything up until thoroughly combined. Let sit for 10-15 minutes to thicken slightly before serving. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Other Ways to Use
Homestyle Buttermilk Ranch Dressing & Dip Mix

Make a simple and satisfying Buttermilk Ranch Dip

Use 1-2 tablespoons of this Buttermilk Ranch Mix base, combine with 1-3 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice and equal parts mayonnaise and sour cream. For a lighter version of the dip, substitute Greek yogurt for the mayonnaise. Whisk until thoroughly combined. Store in the refrigerator for 1-3 days.

To make thick Bacon Buttermilk Ranch Dipping Spread

Mix 1 ounce of Buttermilk Ranch mix with 1 cup sour cream and one brick (8 ounces) softened cream cheese until well blended. Stir in 2 cups shredded Cheddar Cheese and ½ cup coarsely chopped cooked bacon (about six slices). Top with additional shredded cheddar cheese and sliced green onions if desired. Store in the refrigerator for 1-3 days.

Get Creative

Experiment with extra additions like pureed avocado or chipotle chilies to create unique flavors that compliment whatever you’re cooking.

Use as a Seasoning

If you want to make homemade crackers, this Homestyle Buttermilk Ranch Dressing & Dip Mix makes a great seasoning to sprinkle on top before baking the crackers. It’s also delicious when sprinkled on chicken or French fries! Or try tossing some of the dry dressing and dip mix on diced potatoes or chicken before roasting.
